There is some text information about the mysterious Maiko and Geiko of Kyoto, but this is primarily a photo essay and the photos are excellent.|About the Author|Hiroshi Mizobuchi is a photographer specializing in Kyoto's entertainment quarter for a long time. He had exhibitions in Washington DC, Miltenberg in Germany as well as various cities in Japan. He has published more than 20 books.

Kagai, literally translated as “Flower Town,” is the term Kyoto people use for the districts where the geiko and maiko practice the high-class arts that have made their beauty and refinement legendary the world over. There are five Kagai in Kyoto: Gion Kobu, Miyagawacho, Pontocho, Kamishichiken and Gion Higashi.
